The risks to privacy from collecting and storing personal information

There are many risks for your privacy on the internet such as companies selling your data, data leaks, and your computer getting hacked. If your computer gets hacked, strangers might be able to see and share your personal files, and if the hacker injects a virus on your computer the program will probably share files you didn’t plan on sharing, and could potentially damage your system.

Data leaks can occur by criminals hacking into big companies and leaking all of the data that they have stored. These are bad because they could leak peoples home addresses, bank account information, and social security numbers. Criminals then could grab this sentitive information and use it for identity theft, they could use your money, and more.

Companies will sell your data to advertisers to serve you up personalized ads so you are more likely to buy their product. This can be risky because scammers could somehow get a hold of the data and use it to make scam ads to scam you of your money and other sensitive information. This can be prevented by turning on a vpn or using an ad blocker. You can also turn off tracking information on some sites.

How can computing resources be misused and how can it be protected?

Computing resources can be misused by exploitation of the resource that could be harmful to others and put people in danger. This can be protected against by setting laws and having the user sign a waiver before using the resource, so it ensures that the useer uses it properly. I will dive more in depth about how dangerous this can be with tools like AI, and how this can be prevented against.

Exploitation of computing resources can happen by computer users using a piece of software being used how it's not supposed to be used. This can lead to potentially illegal production of material that could potentially harm people online or could send you to jail. Tools like AI have made this process easier, and new laws have had to be invented to control this.

There are ways that we can control the misuse of computer software. The first way is what I already stated, make new laws and have strict penalties depending on the severity of the misused material created. Another way is to have strict terms of service for this software or AI tools so that people dont exploit these services.

How unauthorized access to information is gained?

Unauthorized access to information is gained by malware. Malware can be put on a user's computer by downloading an infected file, clicking on an email attachment, or being sent over the network as a worm. These malicious programs will steal the users data, files, and can damage the computer.

People need to be more aware of the dangers of modern malware. Back in the old days it was very obvious that malware had infected your system. Nowadays sometimes it is almost impossible to see what is on your computer, and what it could be doing. Someone could be stealing and selling your data in real time without your knowledge, and could also be damaging your computer and beeing able to control it remotely. This is how most modern cybercrimes go unnoticed.

There are many ways to prevent this activity however such as if you feel like you are being watched. If you are just the average computer user, chances are you probably dont have a super extreme cyber attack going to your compuer. But just look in the task manager or in your installed apps and check once in a while to see if anything unusual is happening. Or just download an antivirus that will do the hard work for you.

How computing innovation can be beneficial and harmful.

Computing innovation can be beneficial because of advancements in technology. These include advancements in modern medicine, advanced computer calculations for player safety in sports, and others. But computing innovation can also be harmful because of the ways it can be misused. Some examples of this are using moden day AI to create explicit images or fake news that could mislead others, and can be used to make super realistic impersonation videos.

Computing innovation has started a massive boom over the past 15-20 years, and we are being able to do things we never thought would be possible, right at our fingertips. But with this blessing also comes a curse, and that is criminals using this fastly inproving technology to a more slowly adapting world. They could use this technology to scam elders who are not quite as tech savvy as the younger generations are, and it's harder for them to spot scams that we find obvious.

But with people being able to do things like get help on their taxes or get answers all done from AI is pretty astounding. Almost all customer service filtration is done by AI, and some AI’s can write a whole essay in seconds by one simple prompt. This crazy new technology will completely revolutionize the world and make historically hard tasks easier.

How computing innovation can have impact beyond its intended purposes

Computing innovation can have impacts beyond its intended purposes due to things like machine learning and hardware advancements. A program can start out and seem cool at first, but if it falls in the wrong hands or is manipulated in a bad way it can end up being really bad and could put people in prison and attack innocent users. As the internet and computers are evolving, this becomes more and more common and we need to take measures against it.

Machine learning is used when artificial intelligence (AI) learns from user input and algorithms to make its task more realistic and efficient. For example AI chatbots take human speech and compare it to what they put out and see how they are different, and the more human speech is put in, the more accurate it comes out. This however, can have its problems. If an AI using machine learning is fed information like really bad words or how to attack or hurt somebody, the AI doesnt know right from wrong and will start to adapt to the wrongful behaivor. This causes the AI to go haywire and could do any number of things.

Hardware advancements can also allow computing innovation to have a completely different impact. As we develop better and better hardware, we are able to run calculations and simulations way faster and easier than before. This can be exceptionally useful, for things like simulating car crashes and collisions to make things safer. But what this computing power can also be used for are cyber attacks, or even real ones. It is getting easier and easier to launch dangerous cyber attacks at large scale companies that could cause data leaks, whitch lead to more problems. Countries at war could also use this technology to simulate how to harm the most people in the most effective way.

Conclusion

We need to figure out how to control the use of artificial intelligence and computing innovation before it spirals out of control. We already have AI’s that can beat any human in chess, can solve incredibly complex problems in mere seconds, And AI’s that can scan a human's face and ALMOST look the exact same as the real person. One day, AI will become so smart it might become better than almost any human in any task. The scary thing is that AI learns by itself and can almost adapt and master any environment given the right parameters. We must use AI to our advantage instead of using it to harm.
